What Are Patten's Admissions Requirements For Undergraduate Degree Programs?

Online Programs

In order to matriculate as a fully admitted degree-seeking undergraduate in an online program, an individual must:

a) Submit a high school transcript or equivalent (such as a GED) that is accepted by the University as valid within 30 days of the term start date, and
b) Complete twelve (12) college-level credits, either by completing courses at Patten University or by submitting transfer credits that are accepted by the University, or a combination of the two.

A student who cannot produce a high school diploma or equivalent cannot matriculate as an online degree-seeking student. ACT or SAT scores are not required for admission, as long as the student has been out of high school for at least two years. Written permission from a legal guardian is required for admission of persons who are under the age of 18.

Campus Programs
Patten University accepts applications and announces admissions decisions continually throughout the year. There are five categories of admission into undergraduate programs on the campus: freshman, transfer, international, provisional, and non-degree/non-certificate.

Freshman Admission
An applicant may be accepted for undergraduate admission to Patten University either as (1) a degree-seeking student or (2) a non-degree student.  To be eligible for full admission into an undergraduate degree program, an applicant must meet the following qualifications:

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent GED score of 50 or better
• Achieve a minimum high school grade point average of 2.5 or better and
• Earn a combined SAT score of 1200 or higher, or an ACT score of 20 (unless applicant has been out of high school for more than two years – then not required).

Transfer Admission
A transfer candidate who wishes admission to the University must meet the following qualifications:

• Achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better in academic subjects from all previously attended colleges and universities and
• Be eligible for reinstatement to the college or university last attended.

International Admission
Prior to applying for the required F-1 visa, which permits entry into this country as a student, international students must submit an application along with the required materials.

Since English is the language of instruction, international students from non-English speaking countries pursuing a degree and/or certificate program through Patten University must meet all other entrance requirements plus demonstrate their English language proficiency. The University uses the “Test of English as a Foreign Language” (TOEFL) exam results as evidence of English proficiency.

An official TOEFL or IELTS score is required for admission to the University (65 for iBT; 183 for CBT; 550 for PBT; 6.0 for IELTS).
A student who cannot produce a high school diploma or equivalent cannot matriculate as a degree-seeking student

Provisional Admission
A student may be accepted for provisional undergraduate admission to Patten University if s/he does not meet the specified requirements. Provisional terms of admission will be determined on an individual basis.

Non-Degree/Non-Certificate (Special Student Status)
Non-degree admission is designed to meet the needs of students who do not wish to pursue a certificate or degree at Patten.  Students in this category are subject to the same University policies as those in regular student status.  Although transcripts from previous institutions are not normally required for non-degree students, they may be required to assure readiness for some Patten University courses. Admission requirements include an application for Special Student status.
